Naan has always been one of my absolute favorite North Indian comfort foods, and nothing beats the soft, pillowy version my mom makes at home. Unlike the slightly chewy naan you sometimes get at restaurants, her homemade version is fluffy, light, and stays delicious even when reheated the next day.

This simple yet satisfying recipe is my go-to for family dinners when I want to serve something warm and fresh off the pan, perfect for scooping up rich curries or enjoying on its own with a knob of butter melting on top. If you haven’t tried making naan at home yet, this is the recipe that might just change that!

Ingredients

Homemade Naan

    Directions

Making homemade naan might sound fancy, but these simple steps show just how quick and satisfying it can be. With the added carrot-coriander topping, each naan turns out flavorful and colorful, perfect for elevating an everyday dinner.

    Step1

Prepare the topping: Mix the grated carrot, chopped coriander leaves, and sesame seeds together in a small bowl. Set aside.

    Step2

Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix all the dry ingredients thoroughly.

    Step3

Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients until well combined.

    Step4

Make the dough: Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and knead everything together to form a smooth dough.

    Step5

Shape the naan: Divide the dough into equal-sized balls. Using a rolling pin, flatten and spread out each ball into a round or oval shape.

    Step6

Add the topping: Press a portion of the prepared carrot-coriander-sesame mix onto the top of each flattened naan.

    Step7

Cook the naan: Heat a non-stick frying pan and brush it lightly with ghee. Place a naan on the pan and fry over high heat until it puffs up and develops golden spots. Spread more ghee on top, flip, and cook the other side.

    Step8

Serve Warm: Serve the naan hot with your favorite Indian curry.

    Conclusion

Serve your warm, fluffy naan with any rich Indian gravy, from butter chicken to malai kofta, it’s sure to impress! For a delicious twist, brush a little butter or garlic paste over the naan while frying to create an easy butter naan or garlic naan variation right in your own kitchen.
